How do you take total structure length on mitered culverts?

    in Assessment Questions

On a mitered culvert, would you measure the total length from end to end on the top ("roof") of the culvert? Or take the total length from end to end on the bottom ("floor") of the culvert?

On a mitered culvert, record the length from end to end along the bottom of the culvert.

That's the length that carries the flow of water, and so is the measurement we are interested in from an environmental perspective, and it is also the length that NHDOT and road agents would want recorded.
